それでも Even So

 成長するとは、

やられることだ。

「やられたなぁ」

そう思える絵に

出会うことだ。

自分の絵が一番だなんて

思っているうちは、

そこから先には進めない。

自分より上手い絵に出会う。

自分にはできない表現に出会う。

そして、自分の未熟さを思い知らされる。

それでも

描くか、ということ。

“Even So”

To grow

is to be humbled.

To encounter a painting

that makes you think,

“Wow, that got me.”

As long as you believe

your own paintings are the best,

you cannot move beyond where you are.

You encounter paintings

that are better than yours.

You encounter expressions

you could never create yourself.

And you come face to face

with your own shortcomings.

Even so,

will you keep painting?
